Boston Comic Con 2013 Recap

So Boston Comic Con has come and gone once again. I’m happy to say that this show gets better and better each year. Kudos to the team that puts this show together, especially after this year when they had to cancel the show originally in April after the Boston Marathon tragedy. Everyone’s hard work definitely paid off this year with such an exceptional show. Now on to some pictures!

A huge part of why this show was so great was because I was surrounded by some of my best friends to enjoy the show with. As usual I shared a table with my brother-in-arms, the super-talented Tony Sedani. He was premiering his new book, the story of man fighting to find his way home, Return to Rander.

Here is a shot of our table, all set up and ready to go.

Tony’s awesome wife Chelsea was at the show on Saturday to hang out and help with our booth. She managed to get some video of Tony in action on one of his sketch covers, which you can check out here.

We were lucky to have our friends Joel Lolar and Rian Miller from Stock*pile Comics, both of them being insanely talented comic artists, and graphic designer extraordinaire Brian Weiner at the table next to us. The five of us do both of our favorite cons together, this one and SPX in September.

Here is a shot of the Stock*pile table and Rian ready to sell his show-stopper book Man-Gull as well as the excellent action-fantasy book he co-created with our friend Jesse Munoz called Broken Legacy. Joel was selling copies of his post-apocalyptic tale set in Boston, Forever Winter.

Here’s Rian showing off some pin-up action he did for a friend.

The show wasted no time getting packed with people who have been waiting for this weekend for quite some time like ourselves. I managed to get a panorama shot from the row behind us to give you an idea of how packed these aisles can get.

I was glad to sell a good amount of prints I had made, as well as copies of the book Tony and I put out last year, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. I like to do commissions at shows whenever possible, and I did a few this year that I had trouble parting with, because I like them so much myself.

My buddy Mike Vieira came by the table on Saturday looking to get a drawing of Knifehead from Pacific Rim. Since this is my favorite movie of this year, I was happy to oblige!

One guy had come by the table and saw some of my sketch cards, and asked for one of Iron Man villain The Mandarin, and I was happy to do that as well.

Through the powers of the internet I got a request for my first commission on Day 2 of the con. I had posted a picture a picture of the Knifehead drawing on Instagram on Saturday, and this guy asked if would do one for him for Gypsy Danger from Pacific Rim. Of course I said yes and actually forgot about it until he showed up at our table on Sunday. I got started right away, a couple of hours later he came back by to pick up this.

I had started to work on a drawing of Deadpool for fun late on Saturday, and I managed to finish that before the show ended for good on Sunday.

This year I was able to take some time away from the table to score some convention goods myself. Here’s a pic of some stuff I got to take home.

All good things come to an end, and this show is no different. I had an absolute blast of a weekend, hanging out with great friends, making artwork, and enjoying the con as a spectator as well. I already can’t wait til next year!

Here’s a picture I love that Rian took of us leaving the con, which feels like a fitting way to cap off this year.
